Health and safety, planned in before the crane's booked.
Every lift Buzzard runs is planned to the same standard, whichever sector it’s for. Our Appointed Persons produce the lift plan and RAMS before a crane or a haulage slot is booked, not once the vehicles are already on their way.

Our approach to safety.
At Buzzard, health and safety is always planned into every project from the outset, not treated as an afterthought. Every lift is carried out in line with LOLER 1998, with construction-phase work managed to CDM 2015. Nothing is booked without sign-off from an Appointed Person, and RAMS and lift plans are produced before work begins.
Our teams include Appointed Persons, ALLMI-trained HIAB operators, lift supervisors, riggers and slinger-signallers, all working to the same standards. Haulage routes are surveyed in advance to identify risks before a load ever moves. It’s a straightforward approach; plan thoroughly, brief clearly, and never cut corners.
Planning comes first
Our Appointed Persons sign off the lift plan and RAMS before a crane or haulage slot is even booked, not once it’s on its way.
One team, one standard
Crane hire, contract lifting and specialist haulage sit inside a single operation, so the safety standard doesn’t drop at a handover between suppliers.
Experienced, not just trained
Appointed Persons, ALLMI-trained HIAB operators, lift supervisors, riggers and slinger/signallers, steel erectors and just crane drivers.
Built around your site rules
On construction-phase sites we work within CDM 2015, taking instruction from whichever principal contractor holds the plot and filing RAMS in the format their HSE team already uses.
Compliance that runs through the whole job. LOLER 1998 governs every lift we do, wherever it is. Lifting equipment we use is thoroughly examined at the statutory intervals LOLER sets out. On construction-phase sites we also work within CDM 2015, taking instruction from whichever principal contractor holds the plot. Our Appointed Persons sign off the plan before the crane or haulage is booked.
Training & competence.
Every lift depends on people who genuinely know what they’re doing. Our Appointed Persons plan and sign off each lift, while HIAB operators are ALLMI-trained to operate safely and efficiently. Lift supervisors, riggers and slinger-signallers all work to the same standards, each competent in their role before they’re allowed anywhere near a job. Training isn’t a one-off box to tick, it’s an ongoing requirement we always build every operation around.
Appointed Persons
Produce the lift plan and RAMS, and sign it off before anything is booked – the same person carries the job through to final set-down.
ALLMI-trained HIAB operators
Trained to ALLMI standard for materials moving on and off site, not just holders of a generic licence.
Lift supervisors, riggers & slinger/signallers
Deployed on jobs that need more than a crane driver, working alongside your own site team.
Our health and safety policy?
Buzzard holds a written health and safety policy covering how we plan, resource and review every lift and haulage job we take on. It sits behind everything on this page; the Appointed Person sign-off, the RAMS, the LOLER and CDM compliance, rather than existing as a separate document nobody reads.
Setting up a new site, or completing a PQQ?
Ask for a copy of our current health and safety policy and we’ll send it over directly, along with anything else a principal contractor’s pre-qualification process needs.
Raising a concern.
If something on a Buzzard job doesn’t look right, we want to hear about it.
On an active site
Speak to the Appointed Person or crew on site directly – they can stop or adjust the lift on the spot if needed.

Health & safety: frequently asked questions.
What standards do you work to?
LOLER 1998 governs every lift, and on construction-phase sites we also work within CDM 2015. Our Appointed Persons produce RAMS and lift plans before any crane or haulage is booked.
Do you carry out a risk assessment before every lift?
Yes. RAMS and a full lift plan are produced and signed off by an Appointed Person before a crane or haulage slot is booked, not once the job is already under way.
Are your operators trained and certified?
Our teams include Appointed Persons, ALLMI-trained HIAB operators, lift supervisors, riggers and slinger/signallers — not just crane drivers.
Can I see your health and safety policy?
Yes — call 01642 989812 or use our contact page and we’ll send a copy, along with anything else your PQQ process needs.
Are you accredited with CHAS, SafeContractor or similar?
We’re not publishing specific trade body accreditations on this page until they’re confirmed. Ask us directly and we’ll tell you exactly where things stand.
What if I have a safety concern about a live job?
Speak to the Appointed Person or crew on site directly, or call 01642 989812 straight away.
